Deltarune: A Different Snowgrave is an epic action game offering a challenging boss fight. Master Noelle's magic, defeat the boss, and unlock every achievement.
This game was inspired by the Snowgrave route in Chapter 2 of Deltarune. Rather than reproducing the original storyline, it asks what might happen if the Snowgrave spell affected Kris instead of Berdly. This small change creates a new chain of events, placing Noelle in a more dangerous position and giving Spamton an opportunity to become the central threat. The project combines familiar characters and concepts from Deltarune with original developments. Its narrative revolves around the consequences of Noelle's magic, the desperate attempt to rescue Kris, and Spamton's transformation into a much more formidable opponent. The result is a story that feels connected to the original game while developing its own conflict.
The story begins with a crucial alteration to the familiar Snowgrave sequence. The SOUL moves to Noelle, who continues freezing enemies and becoming stronger. During the encounter with Berdly, Noelle is pressured into casting Snowgrave, as in the original route. However, this time, the spell targets Kris instead of Berdly.
Kris is frozen solid, leaving Berdly horrified by what has happened. Noelle then walks away from the scene, but the voices that have been influencing events appear to follow her. This detail gives the alternate storyline an unsettling quality: the consequences of the spell are no longer limited to one unfortunate encounter.
Berdly's response is especially important because he does not simply abandon Kris. He runs to Queen and asks her for help. Although she initially needs convincing, Queen eventually agrees to attempt a rescue, even though Kris is someone she might otherwise consider an enemy.
Meanwhile, Susie and Ralsei search through Queen's mansion for Kris. The building contains mysteriously frozen Darkeners, leaving the Fun Gang unable to understand what has happened. Their confusion adds another layer of suspense, as the characters are dealing with the consequences of an event they do not fully understand.
While Berdly and Queen work toward rescuing Kris, another threat begins to emerge. Queen possesses a giant robot equipped with flamethrowers, which could provide the extra firepower needed to thaw Kris. Unfortunately, their conversation attracts the attention of Spamton, a small salesman who is desperately searching for a suitable body.
Spamton sees an opportunity and takes control of GIGA Queen, transforming into Spamton GIGA. This upgraded form becomes the main boss and the center of the game's final confrontation.
At the same time, Noelle and the SOUL reach the top of the mansion, where they encounter the newly transformed Spamton. The conflict is no longer just about saving Kris. It becomes a battle for the fate of Cyber City, with Noelle forced to confront the consequences of the route she has followed.
Like Deltarune Jevil Fight, the central gameplay experience also revolves around a challenging boss encounter. You control Noelle, whose magical abilities are essential to defeating Spamton GIGA. Her actions have different purposes, so success depends on understanding when to heal, when to cool the boss, and when to unleash a finishing spell.
Unlike a battle in which every attack deals straightforward damage, this encounter incorporates a heating mechanic. Certain sections of Spamton GIGA must be cooled before SnowGrave can destroy them. This creates a tactical rhythm: prepare the target, watch your health, and strike when the required conditions have been met.
Noelle is the primary playable character in the normal version of the game. She begins with 198 HP, giving you a substantial health pool to work with during the fight. However, her survival still depends on how effectively you respond to the boss's attacks and use the resources available in your inventory.
Noelle's spell selection includes familiar magic from Deltarune alongside an original ability designed for this battle.
The relationship between PermaFrost and SnowGrave is the most important part of Noelle's combat strategy. SnowGrave is powerful, but you cannot rely on it without preparation. You must first use PermaFrost to satisfy its condition, turning the fight into a sequence of tactical decisions rather than a simple exchange of attacks.
Heal Prayer serves a different purpose. It helps you remain in the battle long enough to complete your plan, especially when an incoming attack threatens to leave Noelle with very little health. Knowing when to heal instead of continuing an offensive sequence can make a significant difference.
Spamton GIGA is the main boss and the result of Spamton taking over GIGA Queen. His encounter forms the game's major combat challenge, bringing together the story's central conflict and its specialized mechanics. The heating system means you need to pay attention to individual sections rather than treating the boss as an ordinary target. PermaFrost lowers the heat of the selected section, allowing SnowGrave to destroy it once the necessary condition is satisfied. Using these spells in the wrong order wastes opportunities and can make the battle more difficult.
A practical approach is to assess your situation before committing to an attack. Check Noelle's remaining HP, consider whether she needs healing, and identify the next section you intend to target. Once her healing has been disabled, use SnowGrave to take advantage of the opening. You should also avoid assuming that every turn needs to focus on damage. Sometimes, protecting Noelle is more valuable than rushing toward the next attack. A carefully timed heal can help you survive a dangerous sequence and continue applying pressure to the boss.
At the end of the fight in Normal Mode, Spamton NEO appears briefly in a scripted sequence. This encounter serves as a final narrative beat rather than an entirely separate, conventional boss battle, so it is worth distinguishing it from the main Spamton GIGA fight.
Inventory management is another important part of the experience. Noelle begins the normal battle with a selection of healing and recovery items, giving you several ways to respond when the fight becomes difficult.
Her starting inventory contains:
These supplies give you resources to consider alongside Noelle's spells. Their presence does not remove the need for careful decision-making, however. You still need to pay attention to the state of the battle and avoid wasting recovery options when they are not necessary.
A sensible strategy is to treat your inventory as a backup plan rather than an excuse to ignore your HP. Use healing options when they help you survive a dangerous turn or preserve the opportunity to continue your attack sequence. If Noelle is already in a safe position, you may be able to focus on the boss's heating mechanic instead.
The exact value of each decision depends on the situation you face during the encounter. The important point is to balance survival with progress. An aggressive strategy can shorten the battle, but a more cautious approach may be preferable when Noelle is close to defeat.
If Normal Mode proves too demanding, Deltarune: A Different Snowgrave provides Practice Mode as an alternative. This mode changes the playable character from Noelle to Starwalker, who has significantly higher stats and access to a different set of abilities.
Starwalker can also consume Nubert Tea to restore health fully. The character's starting inventory includes twelve Nubert Tea, giving you substantial recovery resources to work with.
Starwalker shares some similarities with Noelle but has a different offensive toolkit. PermaFrost is replaced by Thunder, while SnowGrave is replaced by PK Starstorm. These substitutions change the way you approach combat and distinguish the Practice Mode experience from the normal encounter.
The higher stats make Starwalker a more forgiving character to control. Instead of managing Noelle's more specialized combination of cooling and destruction, you can experiment with the alternate spells and take advantage of the character's stronger overall capabilities.
Practice Mode is also relevant if you want to explore the game without immediately committing to its standard difficulty. It gives you another way to experience the boss encounter and provides its own achievement for completion.
Achievements give Deltarune: A Different Snowgrave additional goals beyond defeating Spamton GIGA. Some reward straightforward completion, while others require repeated attempts, specific circumstances, or unusual combat outcomes.
This system encourages you to revisit the game after finishing the main encounter. Instead of treating victory as the only objective, you can experiment with different strategies and see which achievements remain unlocked.
Two achievements are directly connected to completing the game's modes:
These achievements provide clear milestones for your progress. Completing Normal Mode demonstrates that you have overcome the main challenge, while finishing Practice Mode gives you a separate objective with Starwalker.
Several achievements focus on particular actions or outcomes during the boss encounter.
These objectives encourage different styles of play. Some reward repeated actions, while others depend on surviving with almost no health or experiencing specific defeat conditions. You may unlock certain achievements naturally, but others require deliberate experimentation.
